Dead Letters
Dead Letters
You know, I've been thinking a lot about how Xanga is making an archive of our blogs available for download (if they ever get the link fixed). While I think it's great to have a record of everything I've written, what has become apparent to me is that the things that make what I've written so valuable are the INTERACTIONS that have taken place... the comments, inside jokes, references to previous posts or other people's blogs. Those are the things that make my words a living, breathing thing. It means my blog is ALIVE.
Now, I'm not saying that I don't plan on saving a copy of my archive. But to save them to my hard drive and tuck them away would simply make them dead letters. And if things don't work out for the transfer, all of those words will only serve as a shrine to the memory of a season that has come and gone. I will most likely transfer many of my favorite posts to my WordPress account. But if things work out and Xanga successfully ports Xanga to the WP platform, it'll feel like my blog was resuscitated after suffering cardiac arrest.

Yep! I agree with you. Ugh, this is still so tough.
It would've been nice to have had the free archive download when I still used Socks. Soooo much copy/pasting.
I'm not sure why the link isn't working for some. It works for me, but I guess I'm still waiting for the Xanga Team to let me know when it's ready.
Yes, the interaction!
Agreed. The back ups don't include the replies, then? :*(
@akarui_mitsukai - The archive of your posts include all replies. But any replies to your pulses are lost. :-/
I considered not bothering with saving anything. But, it's mine and I want it. I'm a blog post hoarder
I agree with you on the interactions within the comments. Most of them what made me stick with Xanga. I told you about my "fun" with wordpress, so I've trying WritersCafe at the moment, but haven't got a lot of action there. It is sad, have joined so many sites today only to realize they're just not as good as Xanga. Now, I can't delete the accounts or I keep getting junk mail from the ones I didn't like, it's all a crazy jumble right now. Wow, you have a lot of sites over there to the right. Perhaps I'll try some of them.
Oh wow, I have 9000 credits, YIPPEE FRACKING DOO (That "F" word was courtesy of Sarah, I miss her). UGH.
