EPIC YOU

I was talking to someone the other day who was lamenting the fact that they just wanted to be normal. I said, "Normal? What is "Normal" exactly?" That's when we looked up the dictionary definition of the word:

nor-mal: conforming to a standard; usual, typical or expected

Sounds rather... plain. I mean, here are my stats...

I'm 6'1" tall.

I weigh just under 200lbs.

I'm reasonably muscular with an athletic build.

I work out regularly and I'm mindful of what I eat.

Yet, according to those in the medical field, based solely on my weight, height and waist size (34 btw) I am at moderate risk for serious health problems.  Or so they say...

This is why I don't believe in NORMAL. NORMAL is a skewed reality. Off. Erroneous generalizing. If I were to attempt to get down to "normal" weight, I would look altogether anorexic. This is why you should never strive to be normal. Instead, just focus on being the best you ever. Let's call it...

EPIC YOU.

pleased

@Snoog420 - From what I've seen of your photos, I think you look fine just the way you are. Has someone commented negatively about your weight?

No one is normal because no ones is the same. We should all embrace our inner insanities as well as our outward appearance.

Yes!  Great post, I agree that the general categorization of folks doesn't seem reasonable or realistic.

I agree! I'm only 5'1/2" tall. According to all the charts I should weigh like 100lbs.  Even at my skinniest, when I was regularly doing Karate and in great shape, I weighed 128. If I got down to 100 there would have to be something seriously wrong with me. Just not built that way.

Plus in so many other areas normal could just be defined by what the majority of people accept. I think many of us have learned that the majority can't decide right and wrong.

Normal is abnormal. Abnormal is normal.  People are generally normal, which means there is no such thing, since normal is a deviation from typical or standard.

The idea of normal comes from the perception that we are all completely different from others, when often we share more in common than we tend to express.

Apparently normal for a 6'4" woman is 185 pounds.  I've been there, I felt like crap.  I was sluggish, and it was hard to find the motivation to lift my ass from the couch.  My normal is around 155-165.  I feel good there.  Right now I'm 135.  And again, I'm sluggish and find it hard to lift my ass from the couch.  No bueno.

I agree, normal is sonblack and white, I love the color of individuality, it is like a flower bed with a wide variety of flowers......

@happyworld_ofharibo - I think I may spend too much time embracing my inner insanity. How much is too much?

@Snoog420 - I completely understand. I have a really good friend who eats like a football player and can't gain weight to save her life. It's just the way her body processes food. But like you, people have accused her of having an eating disorder. They don't know her or her circumstances. But they make this judgement based on how she looks. It just makes me angry.

@Foodhog - Thanks!

@voodoo_flower_child - I honestly don't know. I think there are many people who've bought into the lie that to look like someone else makes you more acceptable. I tend to gravitate toward those who demonstrate individuality. It's that individuality that makes them so attractive.

@armnatmom - @babybug329 - @SasGal - Exactly!

@aSeriesofFortunateEvents - Well, I think you look great. And I would bet the hubs is pretty happy with the way you're built.

@xXrEMmUsXx - I'm glad! You should get a t-shirt that says "Epic Summer".

@chronic_masticator - Wow, 185 is normal for 6'4"? I wonder who comes up with this crap? :-/ What makes you sluggish at 135? Do you have a lack of energy at that weight?

@alterEGGO - That's a fantastic way to describe it! I may steal that.

@MyxlDove - ridiculous lack of energy. Enough that I'm too tired to eat. And I love food.

According to my WiiFit, a good weight for me would be 132. That sounds a few pounds passed reasonably do-able. I don't think my body shape would ever allow me to be super-super tiny. I'm too hour-glass-y, and my boobs are too big.

WHAT A SHAME.

I'd like to be thinner, to be honest, but my wife doesn't complain and she doesn't like guys thinner than she is, so I try to keep a good 60lb buffer between us. :)

@chronic_masticator - Ah, understood. Man, I didn't realize that have LESS weight could result in lack of energy. But now that I think about it, it does make sense. Are you content to stay at that weight though?

@ShimmerBodyCream - No, they're not. How they became medical experts is beyond me. :-/

@randaness - Haha! Yes, you and your poor husband. Dealing with your hourglass figure and big boobs. It must be torture.

@ihaveawhistle - That's understandable. I think we all have a personal ideal weight and appearance. But the goal is staying healthy, and you're doing something right if your wife isn't complaining.
