Counting The Days

Since I started working out regularly, I've felt better than I have in a long time. I got up this morning and realized that exhaustion and weariness have been replaced by more energy and more focus. Of course some days are better than others. Highs and lows come with the territory. But overall, I feel fantastic.

In the past I've succeeded, failed and then tried again. I start over from Day 1, claiming that THIS time I'll be victorious. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

But in my drive to meet some arbitrary weight loss goal or in pursuit of some achievement milestone, at times I lose sight of the fact that, in reality, my life is not so conveniently compartmentalized. These segments of time only serve to become unnecessary constraints by which I measure my success or failure.

So I've changed my perspective. Instead of recognizing Day 30 or 72 of a workout routine, I can now see that I'm at Day 14,600 of my LIFE. Because in the end, when it comes to health... every single day counts.

Special shout out to @grizzlybearr for her ongoing inspiration

@olwd - Thanks.

@Thatslifekid - I can honestly say that P90X works. Just make sure that you view it as P(lifetime)X.

@MyxlDove - I know someone in the biz, was also looking at some of their target kind of stuff. Insanity is a fat burner, P90X is a sculpter.

@Thatslifekid - Oh really? I didn't know that. I thought Insanity was just a P90X on steroids so to speak.

Very well said. So true. Sometimes, all you can do is take it day by day and try to do your best. That's what I'm learning...

@Megabyyte - Exactly! I think sometimes we psyche ourselves out thinking that somehow we failed because we had to skip Day 17 of a 90 day cycle. Life gets in the way. And if we focus on day by day health, we won't feel so discouraged if we don't keep up with an often unrealistic schedule.

aww, i'm super touched by the shout out :) and i'm glad i can help!!

i do feel like it's unrealistic to stick to such a strict schedule but i have done my best to do that with insanity. mostly just to say i did. i'm sure my results would be the same if i had to take a day or two off. it's just a personal goal of mine.and @Thatslifekid is right. insanity is a fat burner...TONS of cardio. p90x and body beast are mostly sculpting and toning. body beast is what i'm doing next.

Wow, nice! I remember "before" pics you posted WAY back when. Definitely look much different here, at least in the arms. I think what you've got here is the ideal amount of muscle on a man! Good job!

Daaaaaaayyyuum. Did somebody turn the heat on or is it just me? I didn't have any idea that THAT was underneath that cute plaid shirt you got on in your prof pic. Your lady is one lucky woman. I just wanna grab and squeeze them arms.

Dear Riis,

How coincidental. I've been working out some myself. I keep hearing "Gonna Fly Now" in my head and wish we had a weight room at the park. (Maybe even a ring and some punching bags)

I'm at day one of my life. "Today" is always day one for me.
