Nudity With Friends

My wife is part of a MOMS Club and every month they have what they call a “Mom’s Night Out” or MNO. The MNO is typically an event scheduled specifically for all the members to have a night of socializing WITHOUT their children or S.O.’s involvement. The type of event can vary from having a fondue party to learning how to paint at a local artist’s gallery.

This month’s MNO will be at our house and they’ve decided to have a movie night which basically consists of all the women gathering at our home and watching a pre-selected movie while munching on appetizers and/or sharing a bottle of wine.

So, being the Keeper of All Media that I am, my wife asked me what movies I had that she could offer for selection by the moms who would be attending the MNO. As I rattled off a list of possible choices, I started thinking about the content of some of these movies. The Dramas and Sci-Fi films lean toward violence. While the Rom-Coms tend to skew more raunchy these days. Then I began to wonder if other people consider the amount of violence, profanity and nudity when enjoying a movie with other adults.

I mean, we’re all adults and I’m not saying you invite people over to view porn. But there are a lot of mainstream movies out today that contain their fair share of T&A exposure to the point where it’s all but unavoidable if you want to watch something not produce by Disney or Pixar. So where do you draw the line in situations like this? You never know how someone may react to a woman being topless (and yes, I realize it’s probably different for men than women, but that’s an entirely different story <IMG height=15 src= ) Do you base it on the overall comfort level of those who will be there? Do you determine it based on your own convictions?

So here are my questions…
How comfortable are you watching a movie with friends or family if it has some nudity in it?
And if you are comfortable, how much nudity would it take to make you uncomfortable?

With my regular group of friends a little violence or skin wouldn't be a big deal. Even watching movies with my parents it's a non-issue. But with my church friends, I wouldn't dare show any movie that had violence, bad language, or skin/sexual content. It's just not the kind of thing I want people basing their opinions of me on.

With my friends it's not much of an issue. With family, I find it a little more awkward.

Also, I came here because it said "nudity" in the title.

@QuantumStorm - Haha, I thought it was going to be a "showering with your friends" kind of post!

@landers_mommy0520@momaroo -  I totally understand that. If meat offends my brother, I won't invite him over for a steak dinner.

@QuantumStorm -  LOL I appreciate the honesty. I would guess that many of the people who stopped by did so for the same reason.

@landers_mommy0520@momaroo -  hahaha... I don't shower with friends, but that certainly would be an interesting topic to cover.

@MyxlDove - @landers_mommy0520@momaroo - Well, if your spouse is your best friend, then there's no problem showering with them!

too much sex in movies makes me uncomfortable as well as too much nudity. there are those certain movies that are a no go period for me which are the teen party movies that are 99% about sex. haha. if it's a sex scene it's not a huge deal as long as it's not some pornographic 10 minute long sex scene LOL. that would be awkward for me regardless of the company i'm in. i know i'm an adult but it's just not my cup of tea.
on another note, i'm part of the MOMS club down here in aiken :) but i haven't been to any of the mno's. when they had movie night though they watched the help.

@MyxlDove - I remember as a teenager having to shower in the girls locker room at school. It was always an extremely uncomfortable situation for a lot of us. As an adult I have accidentally seen other women in the pool locker rooms and it is always so awkward!

@grizzlybearr -  Uh oh, you've completely dispelled the myth that all women like sex scenes. lol The Help was actually one of the movie choices. I still don't know which movie they've decided on. I guess I'll find out on Saturday. And this is actually the third MNO they've had at our house. My wife LIVES for the MNOs! lol I think it helps keep her sanity.

@landers_mommy0520@momaroo -  I don't much mind nudity in situations like a locker room at the gym. But I would definitely take issue with public nudity outside of that context or even watching a movie with gratuitous sexuality, ESPECIALLY in mixed company.

I don't mind nudity/sex scenes, but I feel like it'd be weird to see a movie with sex scenes with some people, like it would be awkward seeing that with my grandma/mom. Some of my friends don't like like it, so it makes things a little awkward if we watch a movie that has nudity, but most of the time I don't really take it into consideration when watching a movie with my friends.

So they don't get together and watch movies together in the nude, because that would really set the tone.

I think it is best to have everyone get nude and watch the movie together.

In my parents house, to this day, we weren't even allowed to watch movies that so much as had low-cut tops or bathing suits for costuming. Needless to say, it would be very awkward to watch a movie that had any T&A with my family... especially since my mother fast-forwards the movie if the characters so much as kiss. I don't mind a bit of skin or very short sex scenes when watching movies with friends, but if it is a longer scene it feels a bit awkward.

LOL @ mycontinuity.

I'm glad you posted this, because I kind of feel like a prude.  I am always embarrassed at nudity and sex on-screen.  I don't know why, maybe because my mom is a prude.

I prefer NONE. But, we know how hard to find that in a movie is these days. So, the amount I will allow really depends on whom I'm watching it with. What is there comfort level? What is my comfort level when I am with that person (ex. me & my hubby watching a movie... a nude woman happens across the screen.. If he makes ANY comment I deem inappropriate about her, it ruins the movie for me, and makes me uncomfortable the rest of the night; he doesn't see why I get so upset, but it just makes me uncomfortable knowing that he had a certain thought or some such sometimes, you know? Especially because I know that if it were me making the same statement about a guy, he'd fly off the handle. I HATE double standards, and they suffer our relationship sometimes.. Anywho.)? So, yeah. I try to take a ton of things into consideration when watching a movie. I have a cousin who is like me in the flesh, just the other gender. I feel I would be comfortable watching just about ANYTHING with him. However, there are others whom that just wouldn't be the case for, you know? Like.. I have friends with certain convictions, and so when watching a movie with them, I try to respect it. And I hope people think about mine when they consider me for movies.. Or events too, even. Like, I appreciate the fact that my co-workers like me enough to invite me out for drinks with them after work, or to hang at a party with them... But I don't drink and don't find joy in being surrounded by drunks. So, I hate to turn them down, but I just can't, you know? So, it makes me feel all awkward... I feel like I have to let them know how much I appreciate the thought for the invite... But I just can't go, you know? It makes me sad. Haha :)

I feel I've wandered off topic. Haha n_n See ya later!

Friends, at least a certain select few, NO PROBLEM, family HELL NO!!!

Hmmm, what was that other question?  Oh, how much nudity would make me uncomfy.  Well, can only answer this one for the "with family" crowd.  I don't think I've ever watched a show with nudity with any of my family members so how much is touch to say, but I would venture to guess, maybe some would be ok, obviously no out right porn.
With my select friends crowd, nudity is never an issue. . . oh wait, are we talking about the watching it on TV or us in general?
