Double Promise
Double Promise
I promised you a poem and a song. The song was a blast to write, but takes more time to prepare with loud children EVERYWHERE. But the poem, although it took longer to write, was easier to present. So all that to say, here is Part I. Part II will be coming shortly.

The Evolution of Us
1.
The initial intrigue that made me
wonder internally daily,
“who are you?” and “what’s behind those eyes?”2.
A simple introduction
led to more frequent discussions
of life worth living while our time goes by.3.
This talk is such a good thing
and the challenges that you bring
make me refine my definition of best friends.4.
But with me virtually distracted,
you loathed how I reacted.
Our dialog abruptly cut, such a mess, this end.5.
Those days turned into weeks.
No time was made to speak.
I returned with little fanfare, though with hope.6.
Pleasantries felt artificial,
because you don’t do superficial.
And it took some time til I understood the scope.7.
But the breach was firmly mended,
and the season well extended,
to continue thoughts exchanged and hearts connected8.
And though you may not think it’s true
the real gift in this was you,
Because you are more than I ever could have expected.
Happy Birthday, my friend.

Comments (6)
I am silenced, Riis. Thank you is inadequate.
Verse 8 got me. Right in my heart. Particularly.
This is wonderful Riis. I’m assuming it’s for your wife. . . right?
Good stuff!
This is to me. And I cherish every word.
